about

This live set was recorded off the board by Tyler at the outdoor Warner Electronic Music Festival (organized by Nix, now of the excellent Mahr) on August 12, 2006 at Warner Park in Madison, WI. Caustic played last, amongst a throng of DJs including, um, Anonymous. I know Anonymous was there. Nix probably spun, too. Okay, my mind is hazy. Why? Because Matt decided to try and drink an entire box of Franzia Chablis on stage during the set.

Did I finish it? No. Did I almost puke into a big oil drum trash can in front of the stage? Yes. My body got permission to projectile vomit in the bathrooms right after the set, with some random dude patting me on the back and telling me everything was going to be okay. I remember thinking "Buddy, did you see what I was doing up there? I'm fine. Puking is WHAT I DO.", and I wasn't wrong at the time. For the record, I got sober a few years later. It was a good idea.

As for the live line-up, Jason from Endif/Retcon played drums for me during the set and I laid out squelches and samples and stuff on my Korg ES-1, which may have been the one we destroyed during Black Sun Festival a few years later.

Some of this recording ended up on Booze Up and Riot between some tracks. I also made a bunch of these on CDRs (hence the cover) and handed them out at shows or tossed them in merch orders. I cleaned up the recording some, as I assume is the first time most of you are hearing it, so it sounds as good as it probably can given the questionable quality of the source material.

I rarely perform any of these tracks now. The noisy punk stuff was fun, but as I progressed musically they didn't quite fit the quality of the newer stuff (read that as "I kinda figured out what I was doing...kinda."). Still, good times. We had fun bringing chaos then, and we still enjoy it now. I just don't try and drink shitty box wine on stage now. Yeah, I know, I'm a sellout. That's the price of success, baby.
